Protecting inverter-interfaced microgrids is challenging as conventional time-overcurrent protection becomes unusable due to the lack of fault current. There a great need for novel protective relaying methods that enable application coordination on microgrids, thereby allowing with larger areas and numbers loads while not compromising reliable power delivery. Tools modeling analyzing such under conditions are necessary in order help design operate configuration can be protected, though there currently tools applicable microgrids. This paper introduces concept applying an optimization problem formulation topic microgrid modeling, discusses how it employed both simulating short-circuits set constraints optimal operation ensure device coordination.
